Happy Belated Birthday To Me!
21. A week too late but still a perfect timing to congratulate my self on getting to 21. I should’ve wrote this post on March 23rd but what the hey (to think of it, it’s actually 8 days late..)
It’s been a quite a busy “chapter” in my life. Some are taken for granted and some is a complete struggle into mature-dom.
What I’ve Done This Year
Quite alot of things actually, being in a magazine is really taxing to my energy with all the work and unordered life of being actually plunged into a ’serious’ entrepreneurship. It’s fun actually meeting and networking with new people and writing about something that I’m passionate about (business of technology) — although sometimes I do have to write something that I’m not particularly like — nonetheless it’s still an exciting part.
On top of that, I learned a very important lessons on the stock market — psychology and money management. I lost almost 50% of my previous equity value and now are currently trying to get back even on it (meaning that I have to book a profit of at least 100% of my current equity). The voyage there is so far so good. I’m already up 55% last week although some volatility nearing the end of the Q1 in the equity market made my return sink to only 30-35%ish. That all in 70 days (as in regular days, not trading day). There’s still a lot to coupe and a lot to learn including a better trading plan, a better emotional control, and a humility towards the market. More after the jump.
The other thing that I think is a pivotal point of my life up until now is that I almost finished my final paper. Hopefully this April or early May I can graduate from a 4-year college and concentrate more on my other plan such as trading (for a living maybe) and content business.
What the Future Holds for Me
The future still holds a lot of opportunity, it’s up to me to whether grab that opportunity or let it passed by and never come back again. The most important thing for me now is trying to control my emotion and ego so that it won’t get way. I realized that sometimes I still can’t control my emotion and steadyness and it cost me quite a lot especially in the stock market. This has to change this year (and the year to come).
I’m planning on focusing my trading on options. I’ve gained some good grounds on stock in the past 2 years (although as I’ve said earlier, controlling the trading emotion is still a hard thing to do for me) and it’s just natural to jump into the options bandwagon. The return are higher by nature and so does the risk — although that can be squeezed almost to none with the correct trading strategies.
The second thing that I wanted to do while I’m still 21 is building a content business group. This idea is actually already floating far before the group launched a hosting business (which by the way isn’t accepting any new member because of limited resources) and we did launch it with not so much success because somehow along the way we lost ‘it’.
However earlier this year one of the group member revive the very idea again and I think he did it with flair. You can view the site here. For me? I think I’ll concentrate on trading AND write about that trade still in English (meaning that I’ll pretty much covers European and American stock and equity market) probably on another domain (not this one).
All in all, it’s not what project that I’ll start or what things I’ve done. It comes down to a one man journey to adulthood. It’s going to be shown bare-naked on this blog and I hope you’ll still be on board when I’m finally mature enough to call my self ‘adult’. See you there ;-)
PS: Thank you very much to you guys for the well wishes via email and sms (and friendster). Thank you again, I won’t be where I am today if it’s not for you guys.
PPS: I got a pleasant surprise from Adrian Godong from .NET developer community. You see, I’ve worked on various platform from Ubuntu, MacOS, and also Windows (95, 98, ME, XP) but not Vista for various reason (one of them is that I heard quite a lot of business program doesn’t run well on it). Being a trader, now I can test what programs can run on top of Vista and what not (I can’t wait to test the beautiful Aero UI!). Thank you again Adrian, and I’ll look forward for the package in my mail ;-)
PPPS: Since I never won anything, ever, in my life, this ‘win’ on Microsoft package is sure a nice change :-)
