Well you could use a 3rd party program for yahoo IM which takes less memory….I haven’t noticed FF takes up that much memory myself but usually it’s not that much and I always have a ton of tabs open. I wonder if you have some system programs running that don’t need to be.

@Hanindyo: I think I’ll mostly use Parallel if I migrate to Apple. There’s no software for stock market as powerful as Metastock and the likes I think ;)

@Blueyes: I’m using GAIM now, sometimes meebo to lighten the burden. And Firefox 2 does indeed have a memory leak problem. I think I’ll go back to Firefox 1.5 for the time being.

@irfani: Hahaha, gw suka bahasa lo :P. Dibilang ngikutin engga juga sih karena gw belom pernah ke sono, baru pas udah diimplementasi banyak yang bilang mirip. Yo wes ndak opo lah hehehe

YAP! Satu hal yang gw benci ama FF ya boros memori :D. Mungkin gak ampe 100 mb kali yah, andaikan gw gak install banyak extension.

Hmm, it’s weird, laptopnya br 1 tahun, 1 GB pula.. tapi tetep hang??? Laptop sayah 500-an mb, udah bertahan ampe 3 tahun malah (it’s weird that i can keep it for long). Eh, tapi gw selalu re-install ulang setiap 6 bulan sekali or so… I also use FreeRAM XP Pro to free up the memory everytime it’s almost ‘dying’.. get it from download.com.

Is your laptop suffered from overheating problem?? Coz it happened with my laptop.. It used to hang a lot. It always brought up the blue screen (of death?). I had to replace my hard disk because of the heat problem… :( Now I have the additional fan (cooling system???) and it never hang again.

I think The best thing you do:
1. Buy a new harddisk
2. Buy an external harddisk case
Put your old harddisk on the case and make a fresh installation. No need to backup you files :) just install your most needed application and do the other later on.

Sebenarnya bukan hang sih, tapi freeze (loh kok?). Jadi yang hang pun program2 tertentu saja (contoh: Firefox). Dan pas di cek kemarin fragmentasinya emang udah cukup parah :(. Gw udah setahun nih belom pernah diinstall ulang.

@Irwin: Well I already think of that when I first installed this laptop, but somehow I forgot to image it using Norton Ghost. Infact, I already partitioned the harddisk into two partition so fresh install is not a problem. It’s just that it will consume so many times that ticks me off…

Hmm… saatnya cari Adik mas… ambil MacBook atau MacBook Pro sekalian… trus MAXIMALkan RAMnya…. biar mantap…

Sometimes “cleaning” helps. Use CCleaner and/or RegSeeker for that, after that do a full disk defragmentation.

I don’t think you should scrap it. You just need to give it some love.

You’ll soon find it running a lot better and it costs you nothing.

hmm kalau pakai pc, utk msgr saya pakai Trillian Pro :)

iya tuh kalau pakai pararels/coherence + metastock manteb banget apalagi kalau memori ditambah lebih oke lagi dungs

Komputer yang telah lama digunakan memuat banyak catatan registry termasuk sampai yang ditinggalkan program yang telah di-uninstall.
Coba dulu untuk menggunakan system tools, seperti system mechanic, wintoolspro, dsb. Untuk menganalisa dan membereskan masalah yg ada. Jika masih lambat. Lakukan instalasi ulang sistem operasi dengan menindih yg lama. ( fresh install ), jadi data-data tidak perlu di backup-restore. Tapi untuk antisipasi gagal, sebaiknya dilakukan backup.
