State of Islam

This won’t be a long post so bear with me. I’ve been browsing the internet lately only to find so many sites that put up a whole story about how Islam is actually a violent religion. Of course, the main ammo that they use is the recent violence world-wide which, unfortunately, is done by Moslem (under the provocation of The Pope’s statment).

I’m getting really tired of all this. Here’s my reasons:

  1. They only partially quote The Koran (or Al-Qur’an if you wanted to spell it correctly). Of course, when doing so, they tend to use some verses to bend the religion in their favor. Books that is published to solely discrediting Islam is prone to this kind of practice. In specific, they usually only quote the swift retribution that should be dealt to the non-believers. They delete the verse that says such retribution is only allowed in the act of self-defense (meaning: when you’re attacked first). Take example the First Crusades.
  2. Stereotyping. Let’s just say that the people that rallying on the streets is only 1% of Islam which is around 14 Million people. If compared to the number of the believers of the religion (1.4 billion), that number is very small. But since the footage of the violence made by those minority are circulated world-wide, there’s a stereotyping for the rest of the Muslim population (the rest 99% that is) that they must also a violent community (which is totally not true).
  3. Most terrorists are Muslim, so all Muslim should be guilty. Much like the stereotyping, these people condemn Islam only because a very minor fragments of its believers are terrorists. What kind of logic is this? You can’t value one religion because of the doings of its believers. Look at Bush. What has he done? Lying about the WMD, lying about the Al-Qaeda - Sadam connections, lies lies lies, bombs bombs bombs. Does that mean Christians is a liars religion? Of course not! We do not look at the values of a religion based on the believers practice. Hell, one of my good friends is a Catholic and I value his honesty the most.
  4. Double-standard. If Muslim take part in violence, then it must be the act of terrorism. But if non-muslim took part in violence, it’s just a common criminality. What the hell? Do you still remember the Oklahoma bombing and how the US announce that this is an act of terrorism by an Arabic Muslim? And later on when they figured out that the unabombers are their own citizen (and not Muslim), the degrade the status to “severe criminality”?

All in all, I’m tired of all this. We muslim should speak out the truth that we are not the religion of chaos or violence. We do not tolerate killing people without reason, we do not tolerate bombing buildings just to get your messages spoken, we do not tolerate the shooting of a nun just because we are provoked, we condemn such things. It’s for the sake of the truth. People are already bent the religion to serve their purpose and this must be stopped. Not by violence, but by understanding and inter-cultural dialogue. Let them know the truth!

I met some muslims who believed killing non-muslims was justified and they support some terrorist act. We should also speak the same thing (the above quotation) when we met our ignorant brothers.

Hm yes, this is very frustrating, I’ve met some too. But they are the minority in my view. I mean, what was done by less than 1% of the Muslim shouldn’t stigmatized that the whole Muslim community is violent. The demonstration and violence resulting from The Pope’s comment doesn’t help either.

Hi Oskar, nice post. What frustate me is that some of the websites potray themselves as the defender of reason. But, they show deep faulty logic in their writings, which means: [ 1 ] they’re not what they said they are, or [ 2 ] they are intentionally misleading us.

A few example of these faulty logics have been debunked [ here ]

A few more points:

[1] Extremist muslims is a reality. And we should do our best to correct them (hint: patience and good example is best). To avoid wasting your time, focus on those you think is willing to change.

[2] Partially quoting Bible has been done by some muslims as well. This is why whenever somebody is saying “look, here’s proof that Bible is a fake” and it’s some verses from Bible itself; I took it with a huge grain of salt.

It’s not nice when somebody partially quote/failed to mention the context/misinterpret Quran and uses it to slam Muslims; so I try not to do the same.

[3] We should also speak the same thing (the above quotation) when we met our ignorant brothers. — there are cases when Muslim community condemns the terrorists; but their comments were not published by the media !

Then on the absence of this; people concluded that Muslims doesn’t care about the terrorist acts, and actually prefer it.

A change in mass-media is severely needed if we don’t want this kind of injustice to continue. Blog is one of the way.

[4] Media injustice - point 4 is also spread my conventional mass-media. Journalism at its worst. But when we looked deeper, it makes sense; apparently, CIA has planted its special PsyOps agents on ALL biggest mainstream media. 9/11 has enabled them to finally do this without even really trying to cover it up.

There is a reason why I don’t like VOA (Voice Of America) — its a media that’s the puppet of a fascist government.

Well done Oskar. We need more people to realize these. Blog on.

Wow, a very well-written article Mas Harry. Yeah, I’m going to write a more compeling post about Islam in general (not like the post above which only consist of my ‘rants’). I will need your help though… maybe I’ll contact you some time ;)

Start with small things, start from our own and start from now!
I hope we can make a better view about Moslem’s, with a new angle for west country and make they eyes open about Islam. Islam not terrorist, Islam is perfect religion.

Let gets started…
(sorry for bad English)

No problem, your english is great :)

I’m sorry that I do not agree that most terror have been done by Muslims. Please define terrorism, you can find that in this century Muslim has suffered more terrors. You can count events occured in Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, Bosnia, Maluku, Somalia, Libanon.. etc.

DiN: Yes, you are correct on your view. Unfortunately, most non-moslem doesn’t see that. So it’s not only do we have to promote that Islam is a non-violent country, we also have to promote that in the past, we are the object of terrorism, not the subject.

It’s incredibly unfortunate that people judge the whole muslim community on the violent minority. Although it’s no thanks to the media - they thrive on pointing the finger at whole groups, not just the pathetic few.

I don’t really agree with your final point though. I beleive a racist act is a racist act. Although when you look at it like that non-muslims are nearly always blamed for racism.

It’s just sad that it has to be like that.

Make a stand ;)

Skipper, you got your point through ;) and yes, I will make a stand. Definitely not on this blog since it really doesn’t fit in well with the other material, but probably on other blog. Thanks for stopping by!
