What I’m Reading Right Now
Does any body cares? Well I suppose not but this is my blog anyway :-). So, here’s what I’m currently reading:
- The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman. It’s a good book with a good material written by a good writer. I bought this book on Idul Fitri and still haven’t finished reading it up until now (stuck on page 200-ish). My current impression is that the world is flat with many “enablers” such as internet, outsourcing/insourcing, open-source movement, etc. However, Friedman’s argumentation on globalisation 3.0 (as he recalled it) is majorly flawed. It only covers the advantages of globalisation and denied what negative impact that might landed on developing countries.
- All Marketers Are Liars by Seth Godin. Again, this is also a well written book by a world-class e-marketer (note: it is not an MLM nor a money game. It’s the real internet marketing — using internet as your marketing media). He writes that in order to acquire loyal customers, marketer should create a believable story about their product. Not a fake stroy, but a genuine one. The most important part is for you to believe that story your self. I’ll write more if I’ve finished this book.
- The End of Poverty by Jeffrey Sachs. It’s a contra-argument book for Friedman’s book. Well not a head-on argument though, but it’s sure refreshing that something is being done to eliminate poverty on many parts of the world. If you are interested on making the world a better place, I guess you should also check One.org and Sarah McLachlan’s video clip.
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Just as the tagline of the book “a story about following your dreams”, it’s a must read for everyone. It tells the story about a spanish boy that endure the rigorous education on a seminari just to be a shepherd. He then met someone that claims himself as a King of Salem and that meeting changes his life forever.
Books that I wanted to read after I finished those books I’m reading now:
- Freakanomics by Steven (Levitt and Dubner).
- Neural Networks in Finance by P.D. McNelis.
- How Would You Move Mount Fuji by William Poundstone.
- The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho.
Well, those are the only books that I have in mind to read now. I will keep you updated (if you care enough that is) ;-)
