Looking For Developers

Hello guys, it’s now time for another developer hunter for another project of mine. I’ll write this job listing on English and Bahasa Indonesia (on another post). So here it goes.

I wanted to make a one-of-a-kind Indonesian site. I already have a sound business strategy, a marketing and PR team (which I hope can do well to handle this kind of techbuzz in Indonesia), and have signed a deal with VIPnet on using their 1Gbps IIX connection. I’m also currently pitching some semi-pro Indonesian venture capitalist to fund the expansion of this project once the site is up and running. So pretty much what I need now is a developer (or developer team). A good one. A DARN good one.

Technicalities

I wanted to create a music site but not just an ordinary music portal site (which when I think about it… is non-existent in Indonesia). It’s pretty much a blend between friendster and myspace with every features that users need with a minimal bloated features. It will have upload facility by the band member and download facility for the fan member. Prefered language and database usage is PHP and MySQL although if you can show me that you know a better language to do the job (and can code using it), I’m willing to go your way.
More details about this project will be discussed if you are a serious developer. All I can say is that I need a hardcore web programmer (and a designer). The one that can speak the language without referring to the manuals. The one that dreams in that language (that he uses to program of course).

I’m looking for a developer that has a mid-sized portofolio. And by portofolio here I mean something creative, not just some portal programming or other company’s website development. It’s useless if you have clients such as Ocean Pacific (hey, I love their glasses!) if what you’re making is simply a site. I’ll consider mid-size portofolio as the following: have worked on some open source project before (web-based prefered).

The project deadline for web-app development is 2 months (starting Feb-Mar) and will continue on daily basis for site maintenance.

Payments

Ah isn’t this the part that you’re waiting for :-). Well I have two options for the developer. The first one is contract based in which we will sign a contract that consist of your task on the team and pay you well. When your contract run out, then you’re packing your bags.

The second one is stock option where you have a hold on the company’s share and retain some part of the company’s profit in the future. You will always remained in the team as long as you have your share of company’s stock.

Both have their pros and cons. The first option will give you certainty on how much you will be getting for your work but I’m telling you, you will miss the next internet wave that will hit this country :). Plus, you don’t have the ability to control where the company should go next. If you are a control freak, you won’t choose this option :)

The second one gives you more freedom on choosing where you should develop your piece of software next as well as where the company should go. If the company succeed in the future (in which I strongly believe), your stock option will worth big bucks. On the downside, you don’t have the certainty of how much you will be getting for your work as that depends heavily on how the company’s perform.

Method

You can simply use the contact form on this blog and I will contact you for further notice. Usually under 12 hours, sometimes above that. But one thing for sure, I’ll reply under 24 hours during workday.

I will then give out the rest of the technical specification I will need to developers as well as reviewing your portofolio. If you are interested in the projects and are able to do it, then we will meet face to face to discuss further details of our working conditions. The internet is a powerful way on doing business but I prefer to do business with people that I already meet face to face. Got duped several times doing business with people I have only met on the web.

And also, developers that resides in Jakarta or Bandung is preferable since then we can collaborate easier. However, this developer post is open to people outside those two cities as long as you can proof your self as a great developer.

The closing of application is Wednesday next week (January 19th 06).

Thank you for your attention ;)

On second thought… I’ll write the Bahasa Indonesia version of this post tomorrow, it’s pretty late now…

php.help nya masih terlalu sering dibuka buka sama gue :D :D

@snydez: ya ga papa sih sebenernya. Cuma kiasan gitu lokh :D. Soalnya proyeknya emang susah sih. Gw aja ga berani undertake gara - gara ya itu tadi… kompleks.

PHP.. ya mesti ruwet.

Coba Rails ;))

@Andry: sebenernya engga tertutup kemungkinan sih mas. Soalnya box servernya bakalan di manage sendiri, jadi mau fasilitas apa juga bisa diinstall :)

that’s a great idea!

Wow I the plan sound great, I wish I could participate, but I couldn’t :-)

Nah, the project is a fluked. I could find a decent developer alright. But the plan just doesn’t work. I’ll post it later on this blog.

[...] I need a new computer. My current computer will be used as a test server for our next project and housed at IDC Jakarta by the end of January. Before that, I have to setup this box with Linux (probably Fedora, probably Debian, don’t know for sure… love the apt-get feature) and getting the LAMP system ready for testing environment. This also mean that I have to erase all of the data on this computer (Zinio magazine, massive arrays of ebook, couple of presentation examples, music, videos, pretty much everything) and install the new system fresh and clean.
