Akismet Sucks, Changing to SK2

Okay, Akismet isn’t THAT bad and it’s actually a good plugin to prevent comment spam to infest your blog/site. To add to that, it uses a centralized server so that the system can learn from a vast number of blogs to determine which comment is spam and which is not. Truly, the wisdom of the crowds at play here.

Unfortunately, spammers are not that stupid. In a worst case scenario, s/he can hook up with a WordPress installation and using akismet him/herself to learn how it works. To make things worse, he can then mark all comment, even spam comment, as “non-spam” and thus gaming the system.

Akismet centralized server then will think that spam comment that has been marked as “non-spam” is a clean comment and the next thing you know, every blog that is using Akismet is full of spams. This is a major weakness of a centralized server, besides its risk of being DDoS-ed, ALOT.

After alot of my comments marked as spam by the system and some of the limitations (like you can only view the first 150 comments marked as spam, say adios to the rest), I’m switching to Spam Karma 2. More control on my site and that’s how I like it. I hope that there will be less false positive after activating this plugin. But if you do have your comment marked as spam, please do let me know by using this contact form. Thank you guys!

allo juga.

blog-nya sebenarnya kompilasi berita-berita terkini yah?

ciao

the spammers on my blogs like my AJAX commenting system so they are making fun of it oh gosh! I am thinking to install Spam Karma also. So far I have been lazy to install any spam plug-ins but after I have the new site I get more spams lol

The spammers are currently trying to get the comments approved, they add a normal URL (bloglines.com, yahoo.com, etc) in the URL form while they spam the comments, they think that their comments will automatically be approved if they add a normal URL. I however have set the awaiting moderation option so the first comment has to be approved first before it appears.

The most of spammers are human however (even though it’s a machine that spams, but the machine itself is made by a human LOL), they keep on learning the new spam plug-ins, haha!

Hmm.. I heard WP2 can handle spam much better than previous version (1.5.2).

I don’t know why, but i never had any spam in my blog.. hehe

I have Akismet installed. Heck no, some comments get Akismetted.

I swithc to SK2. Nah, spams still get through it (Did I miss somehting upon my installation ? I don’t think so).

So I got Akismet and SK2 running altogether. No spam, but they succesfully slowing down my WP.

I switch to TxP, then.
Bubbye to 40-spam-in-average-day !
Bubbye to everlasting mind-wasting post-rant about spam plugin.

No more. Im through with WP.

hi tukang kentut!

*ngeloyor*

@Macchiato: bukan kok mas, blognya engga melulu berisi berita.

@ anonymuis: uh-oh, I think you’ll hit a solid wall there. I have used an AJAX commenting system in the past and combining it with SK2 is not an easy task, if not impossible. Plus, sometime AJAX messed with the trackback and pingback.

@Hericz: calling all spammers… we have a potential blog here!

@andry: I haven’t got any spam through though I only installed SK2 for a day and that doesn’t say much. I hate to see a wp user go… but I heard alot of buzz going on on TxP side. Might as well take a little peek on it :)

@didats: Kupluknya udah dicuci belom mas?

@Wahyu: biasanya sih engga peduli.

To make things worse, he can then mark all comment, even spam comment, as “non-spam” and thus gaming the system.

Akismet is set up specifically to prevent this, that’s why we track all usage by API keys and weight submissions differently.

@Matt: I’m pretty sure you won’t let me take a peek on how you guys track the submission (due to security reasons) :)

So, bye.. bye.. Akismet [...]

use SK2 (not yet 2.1), i check it 1 or 2 days to purge spam comment. I could’ve set it to auto-purge any spam comment older than x minute/hour/days but I didn’t :D. Why bothered with 40-spam-in-average-day?? Ou could just auto-purge it anyway :p

Not doing auto-purge since I’m still reading even the spam comment one by one :)

i find no spam in blogspot. :) hi oskar, long time no see. :)

Hi Mas Fatih,

Yeah, it’s been a while now. Seriously? My friend was plague by spam several months ago. Probably Blogger already taking this matter more seriously than ever (considering that many of the spam blog is originated on their server).
