Ozzie’s Wishlist 2006

I’ve seen quite alot of wishlist for 2006 and tickled to make my own. I never have a wishlist before, the far I went is to have a new years resolutions that I hardly keep (either because I forgot or simply because I just can’t). So here’s my wishlist for 2006, for me personally, and to the society which I’m involved in.

  • Making a first blog network in Bahasa Indonesia. I’m aware that there are some Indonesian blog network already on the blogosphere but mainly aiming at foreign readers. With some friends, I wanted to make a new blog network that aims totally on Indonesian with a different business models besides advertising.
  • Still related with the above post, I also wish that the outrageous monetization of blogs stopped. Yes, money is needed to maintain those blogs but please, I’m just sick seeing GoogleAds popped up everywhere. It’s tired you know.

  • Peace for my country. With the Bali bombings, some anarchist activity on smaller scale, riots everywhere, I really hope that peace finally came to my country, Indonesia. I’m not a very much nationalist but as old saying goes, “home sweet home”.
  • A true VC funding in Indonesia. Currently, the only form of VC investment in Indonesia is through loan and no management support from the VC. I’m wishing that with many VCs now eye-ing their expansion towards Asia, Indonesia is on their list. We need more angel investors and more VC that knows how to give a venture funding rather than just a cut loan.
  • I really wish that my project on developing a new kind of music site in Indonesia is going well. Currently I’m searching for developers that are able to handle what I want and get the job done. I’m going to post more details about this later tonight (I hope).
  • I wish I have enough money to buy an Apple PowerBook with Intel-based processor somewhere on March. Hopefully, I already have enough money by then through trading in the stock exchange.
  • I also wish that I can totally migrate to either Linux or Macintosh because the first one mentioned is known for its stability and it’s free and the second one is known (apart from its stability) for its elegant design.
  • I wish that I can graduate on late 2006
  • I wish that BHTV (Bandung High Tech Valley) can really exist. I can’t wait to have a company that works on a technology industry
  • I hope that Indonesian people doesn’t perceived people by their title. I might not be an engineering students (and therefore will never have an engineer title), but I know how things work (not thoroughly maybe). And it’s not a sin for me to dream of having my own technology-based company.
  • I hope that the overall economy of my country is improving. The better the macroeconomy, the better the microeconomy will work. That means more money that can be made
  • I hope that the gap between the rich and the poor is narrowed. I have read some part of Jeffrey Sachs book, “The End of Poverty” and I do hope that we can eliminate extreme poverty within our lifetime.
  • I wish that the war in Iraq is over. Any war. Any where. Better yet, just replace G.W. Bush and I strongly believe that the world will be a better place.
  • I wish that I can have more spare time on 2006. Honestly, I don’t have any decent sleep since November
  • I wish that I can respect and care (plus loving) my parents even more. Spending sometimes acting as a parent for my brother (we lives in a boarding house), I now know how hard it is to be a parent. I’m sorry for all of my mischief mom and dad!
  • I wish that I can be more wiser and more mature before taking my actions. Having a cool head even when the situations are in a hotspot condition (hey, can we play internet there?).
  • Last but not least, I wish all of my readers have all the best of luck in 2006, happy new year!
