Should Apple Ditch Safari?
This is very frustrating. I’ve been using Safari for several days now prior after the purchase of my brother’s iBook. The browser break at several sites that I pretty much loved such as Writely. It even broke on my WordPress Admin section by not displaying any quicktags (which I sometimes used).
I know Apple has done some great effort to create a good browser that is seemlesly integrated onto the core of MacOS which is Safari, but the browser somehow lack support on the open standard that’s been going on recently on the web (such as strick or lean XHTML and such) and returns unexpectable results on rendering web pages (such as WP admin session).
So I think, Apple should just ditch Safari on their next release of MacOS and replace it with Camino, a Firefox derivative which is very powerful (compared to Safari - IMO) and compatible with the latest standard (CSS2 anyone?). Moreover, this will shows Apple’s commitment on battling Microsoft’s monopoly on internet browser by strenghtening the position of Firefox (through Camino).
The only thing that Camino is lacking is Safari’s full compatibility (and optimization) for MacOS which can be easily resolved if Apple ditch Safari and embrace Firefox (or Camino, or whatever, they are the same program on different platform).
I know, from a business point - of - view, this step might be considered as money wasting activity because Apple has spent some fortune to develop this program. But if we dig deeper to get a strategic view on desktop domination, this is a very viable steps because, as I’ve mentioned earlier, strengthten the foothold of Firefox - the only strong challenger that embraces web standard.
So should Apple ditch it? From business strategic point of view, yes they should ditch it. What do you think?

Firefox and Camino are not “the same program on different platform”[sic]. The best evidence for this is that there is a Firefox for OSX. Camino is a Cocoa browser that uses the same Gecko engine. Its rather like saying that Konqueror is the same browser as Safari. Clearly they are not the same.
