Xaraya…
As you all know, our sister site is using Xaraya as its script. It’s been three days for me to messing around with this scripts. I take a peek and do some tweaking in the modules, some templates, but haven’t got the time nor the talent to alter the design (our design is still ugly). I sorted the category and throw in some articles from this site.
The results? It’s pretty lame and annoying. The script its self has a very big potential but alas, it’s not very user friendly. I’m not a technical guy, you can say that I’m just half of semi-developer (which means sometimes I understand what codes do by looking at it but not sure how to change it… and sometimes I know nothing at all) and I think most of the will-be user falls into my category. To be honest… the learning curve is so high. Maybe it might feels challenging for some people (including me :-P), but can proof staggering to some others which is not good.
The page also loads really slow compared to e107 or WordPress. Haven’t feel any difference if compared with Mambo but surely Mambo looks alot sexier and easy to configurable (although it’s too complex for what I need, and the WYSIWYG editor stuck in my IE and FireFox). I have activated the caching for Xaraya but it doesn’t seems to load faster. I wanted to take a slashdot effect for the site but that’s against the hosting policy unfortunately.
I have installed Xaraya’s 3rd party WYSIWYG editor and it runs okay. Not as good as Mambo’s though but it runs in my browser. Still cannot set
though which bothers me alot. The articles will look good if you can do “justify” to your documents.
All that mishaps doesn’t turn me down from this script though. I don’t know, but I like this script alot. It doesn’t seems beautiful but it serves my need. I just hope that the developer thinks about how to make things more user friendly and work out with the documentations.
Well done
